Sofia Syed

Sofia is a pragmatic employment and reputation management lawyer who works predominantly with ultra-high-net-worth individuals, their families, private offices and households. Qualified in 1999, she has built her career at firms including Sinclair Roche & Temperley (now Stephenson Harwood), DLA Piper and Keystone Law, before co-founding MEUM Group in 2023, a multidisciplinary private office for UHNW families, where she served as CEO and remains a Director and Co-Founder.

Sofia has extensive experience advising on all matters relating to personal staffing, from recruitment and management through to termination and post-termination issues, whether staff are engaged in the household, the family or private office. Given the profile of her clients, reputation management and privacy protection are integral to everything she does: her practice spans bespoke employment contracts and non-disclosure agreements through to contentious matters, defending clients’ positions and reputations against employment claims and unreasonable demands from former employees.

Sofia is recognised by The Legal 500 and the Spear’s Index as a Top Recommended lawyer for HNW reputation management. MEUM Group received the 2024 Spear’s Award for Private Client Innovation under her leadership, and in 2025 she was a finalist for the Spear’s Woman of the Year Award.

More about Sofia

Sofia’s approach is preventative as well as protective: she helps clients put the right structures, contracts and household policies in place before problems arise, recognising that household staff and the inner circle are often the most overlooked source of privacy and reputational risk. She brings her corporate and commercial experience into her role as a lawyer and personal adviser, so her advice is always strategic, commercial and practical.

As a trusted adviser to many of her private clients, Sofia is frequently asked to advise on, or signpost, wider personal and business matters, and assists with the selection and instruction of other key advisers. She is also a sought-after speaker and trainer, delivering engaging private household HR training to principals, family offices and household managers.
